Trascripts ~ Recommendations

 

Hey Simba, how are you doing? thanks for your posts on international MBA, very useful and informative. When are you flying to US btw? I am applying to Duke so maybe I am going to visit it sometime in September. I had a query regd the transcripts.

I was able to contact my universities to understand the process for getting transcripts. However the University say that they are going to provide only the marks cards (each one at a cost it seems). I have seen that each B-school has a transcript request form that they ask the registar of the under-graduate univ to fill. So my question is will each semester marks card suffice or do I have to ask them to fill transcripts as requested by each B-school. Are official copies of degree certificates also required to be included in the transcipts package? Hope you can let me know based on what you encountered. Hmm, the top schools require self-reported marks. So, u fill in the details in an excel sheet they have provided & upload them. For schools that require official transcripts, I sent a big sealed envelope with attested photo-copies of the marks cards.. attested by the registrar on the marks card & envelope!! I think the US universities understand the kind of of system we have here & they are ok about it!!! I didn’t get any other transcript!! U might also put in a note that the sealed envelope contains ur transcrpits... & no other form will be personally attested. Nothing to worry!! Bye....... See u in Sept!! :-)

Does self -reported transcript mean that they do not need any official documentation to be mailed to them. i have seen this on K andW websites for online applicants. For others i guess i'll mention that in a note. once again a big thank you. ~anand. btw interesting taste in books you have!!

Self Report means they just give u an excel sheet where you need to enter ur marks. I guess once u are admitted, they may ask u for official transcripts or photostats of ur markscards (not sure which one!). Hahaha.. gone are the days when I used to get glued to various books! Byeee Simba.

Hello Simba, I am writing to you to seek your opinion on a dilemma I am facing on the choice of recommenders. After reading your essays on international MBA, I understand that diff recommendations should reflect different aspects of my personality. I have three people who know me from the past 3 years. One is my immediate supervisor and the second  is my supervisor' supervisor, both of whom have worked very closely with me over the past 3 years. I spoke to these 2 ppl and got to know that both of them hv enuf mutually exclusive content for my recommendation.

My third recommender is the head of a volunteer organization, I've been a part of at my place of work. He is an alumnus of IIM A. I have worked a lot with him for social and environmental welfare causes. Almost all the universities I am considering, ask for 2 recommendations and my recommenders prefer submitting recommendations online. Against this backdrop, would you still advise me to go ahead with recommendations from all the three ppl I have mentioned? If you feel I should stick to 2 recos which 2 should I choose? In case, the head of the volunteer organization happens to be one of my 2 recommenders, wouldn't this give an impression to the adcom that I don't have enuf professional contacts who can recommend me? Sorry for the late reply! Mutually exclusive stuff will harm you more than it can help! No, u cannot use the volunteer org head either. It has to be professional one. Choose one of the 2 superiors! And one from ur past work place. If this is ur first job, ensure that these 2 wont write contradicting things!
