Hi,
Is TOEFL required for International Applicants who have done their undergrad in English medium? i.e. were you required to submit TOEFL scores for Duke/Wharton?
I found this on Duke's website.
"If you did not earn an undergraduate degree from a school whose primary language of instruction is English, you must take the TOEFL."
Something similar on Wharton's.
Hey Anand,
No, I didnt need TOEFL. Dont think I even asked for a waiver as my
undergrad was in English.. so is everybody's in India.. whats the
doubt??? :-) Language of instruction has always been English for me,
they are not asking for mother tongue!!!
some schools say that unless you are from a native English speaking country or have studied in an english speaking country or worked more than 3 yrs in english speaking country, you need to give TOEFl scores. Others exempt it the form below. I am writing it anyway, couple of the schools do require it and I dont want to take any chances with that. Here is what Wharton says - You may waive the TOEFL if you have earned an undergraduate degree or master's degree in an English-speaking country or from an institution in which English is the language of instruction; applicants must provide evidence to support the waiver --Did you need to provide any 'Evidence'
Anand, Dont think I had to provide any evidence!!!!
Hey Sowmya Simba,
I had a query regarding the TOEFL exam. I had put this query to the Adcomms almost a week ago but I didn't hear from them.
I wanted to know how to get the TOEFL waived.
The website requirements tell me that if the mode of instruction at college is not english- only then do I need to take it. But I guess most students in India would fall in this category of "TOEFL Not Required". So can you help me out explaining how to approach it.
or do you suggest I get over with this exam as well so as reduce the unnecessary hassles.
Preet,
Sorry for the delay in replying.
I think you usually write about this either in your optional essay or enclose a separate note along with your applications. I don't clearly remember how I did it, but calling the b-school & speaking directly on the phone might get you a correct answer. I think each school treats it differently.
And I never had to do my TOEFL.
