Ah.. not so pleasant! January 15, 2006

The last week has been one of the biggest damper in recent times. Nah, I am not talking about any of the worldly happennings. Just referring to the 1st recruitment week (for summers) that came to an end yesterday! Very sad, as many .. I repeat, many of the Investment Banking hopefuls had a severe heartbreak! The desis sure took the biggest hit as most of them were surely looking at IB! Ofcourse, it pays & looks lucrative but like hell, its challenging! :-)

We had the major banks and finance institutions on campus. All you could see were serious wannabes looking at the last set of questions before the just head it to the interview rooms. Some of the marketing gurus too were on campus where they hit upon the marketing groups & tried to woo the ‘very’ talented ones! But how would you decide ‘talent’ amongst the whole chunk.. its hard! Sure, everybody is good.. & its not possible to take all. And sadly, they just want a few .. yeah, a few, from all the possible b-schools across US. So, do a little bit of math & you will boil down to the gory numbers. LOL! Hmmm.. is it really that bad.. no jobs huh!’? Well, as of now, thats how it looks.. but we cant really comment till the entire recruiting season is over! All this makes me wonder, what about the Career changers, man.. they surely are taking a beating! The consulting guys will soon be on campus… with Deloitte making an exit pretty soon! Wonder how many they actually took.. 2 .. 3 …not sure! Nah, I didnt get onto their closed list though I really wished I had! :-) So, what happens to all others… well, everybody will start looking at all other firms coming on campus & of course, the off-campus search begins in full throttle! I have met people who couldnt convert 6-8 interviews and the amount that each of them have put into this is really tremendous! Ah, now what happens to me.. LOL.. Wish I knew ;-)

guys & gals. Hope this year bestows everything you always wanted. :-) Long time since I blogged, I know. I just didnt have anything to write about. My New York trip did not give me any results from a career point of view but atleast it made me fall in love with the city. NY is definitely beautiful and the only city I wish to live for a while.. i.e among the few that I have seen! Christmas in NY has been my dream for a long time..& this time, it just came true! So, the moral remains - Keep dreaming! :-)

My comment system doesnt seem to be working.. so keep sending me those mails. LOL! I still have another 18 days to get back to school. Man, time really flies! I so dont want to get back to school.. I dont want to set alarms & rush to classes.. Haha.. am kidding ofcourse! Cant wait to start.. I kinda feel I am done with relaxing bit & want to start running all over! IBs are on campus from 9th of Jan.. and a few other firms.. My last Term result was bad.. but my Finance score was good.. and I have also picked up some major liking to nos. I might pursue some of the Finance fields.. haha, that is if I get a break! These holidays, I havent done much prepping bit either… just plain lazy… sleeping way too much!

I love solving cases .. hence I am genuinely interested in consulting. I am still not sure which area of Finance I might like.. Equity Research.. Corporate Finance.. etc etc. Hmm, we were supposed to choose electives for Term 4.. & LOL, I went ahead & have chosen, FSA (Financial Statement Analysis) and Corporate Finance.. so much for my initial crib about my quantitative ability! Trust me guys, it is not GMAT Math! LOL! :-) Thats it for today… I guess…

Happy New Year once again! Hey BTW, you can find my article - Interview with Duke Adcom @ PaGalGuY
